This post is just a photo blog for tiger lovers. The tiger population has increased in the last couple o years. If the same trend continues, We can see our national animal in forests. Till then zoos will satisy our vicarious feelings for seeing the big cats. These photos were taken by me at pilikula zoological park, mangalore. Good bye Panthera Tigris.

Mahabaleshwar - part II

Image
Continuation of my previous post. The next day we decided to go site-seeing in taxi. The taxi rates area standard as you can see in the below picture. For family budget travelling comfortably it will be ideal to hire a taxi. We visited the needle hole point. As the name indicates you can guess.   Again a monkey snatched a guava fruit from me. Then we went to get the spectacular view of venna valley, river and the dam. It was a splendid view to see the river flowing in between the hills. Do you know that mahabaleshwar is famous for strawberry gardens. That was our next destination. We had delicious strawberries directly from the plant and satisfied our appetite. Then we went to venna lake and had a pleasant boat ride in the evening and ended our tour to mahabaleshwar.

Cycling in the Enchanting mahabaleshwar

Why we choose cycling? To have a different experience   me and my friend decided to explore mahabaleshwar on foot. We stayed at the Maharashtra tourism development corporation guest house. On the first day we bought a map rom the local store and just discussed about the view points we can cover. From the map we inferred the nearest points are within a kilometre in range and started immiediately to the   Mumbai point-other name for sunset point .                                                   The road to Mumbai point. We reached in no time around 3:00 PM, spent some time there enjoying the sun waiting for it    to disappear when viewed from a hill. We lost patience at around 4:00 PM and realised our mistake. Because it is a sunset point , sun need not set whenever a tourist comes there and we are too early for that. So we sent on foot to our next view point – The lodwick point.                                                  On the way to lodwick point The road

Bird watching in raichur- part 2

Image
Continuation rom my previous post This Coppersmith barbet  was staying opposite to my house, literally right in front of my house. I watched him from the beginning of building nest , hatching the young ones, to leaving the place. Here is the photo journey. Note there is only one entrance(hole) in the branch    Building the second entrance     doing the hard work   feeling tired   Successfully completed the nest   It took 2 months to take these photos. Having seen a bird build a nest , hatch young ones from close quarters is a special feeling for any bird watcher, that too this is my first stay away from home, and also first sighting of coppersmith barbet.

Bird watching in raichur

Image
I recommend raichur for bird watching only if you are a serious bird watcher. For all other tourists there is very little in raichur and those interested in bird watching go ahead. I stayed there or two years during my stint at a public sector company and these winged visitors helped my stay with their morning and evening calls. You need not go farther than your bedroom, simply open your window and can watch them with delight. However for more serious birder, you need to venture out only 2-3 kms from your room(if you live nearby shaktinagar).I assure you on any given day you can spot more than 50 species of birds in less than 2 hours, and more han 100 in a day. These shots you can get any time of the day, any time in a year, anynumber of times. Some painted storks feed there young ones. These are permanent settlers here, unlike other bird sanctuaries where they are seasonal. This grey hornbill gave me pose right near my room. Earlier I visited dandeli wildlife sanctu
